For those of you who are living close to the corner, like to waitress, and needs some extra buck-os, here's some advice on how to best find a job there!!
"The best way to find a job on the corner is to be referred to management by a friend or to go in and just flat our have a talk when the manager is in the building. All of the places on the corner are looking for people that are personable and friendly, but also have the time to work shifts, so if you go in and sell your story its pretty easy to get a job as a server as long as you have experience with some sort of job that requires interactions with people."
I would say in my experience that the restaurants definitely go through hiring cycles, so they may tell you to come back in a few weeks or months or the next semester. Key take-aways: apply early, keep coming back!
A few Aphis that work the corner are: Kasey Knoell, Mel Belardi, Haley McGlauflin, Casey Schulman

Gym-lovers: How to get that job at the AFC
How much fun do you have trotting around the srat-track at the AFC?!
Last year I was in desperate need of a part-time job to make some extra cash and applied for a job at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. Since I knew Arianna worked there, I just went in and filled out an application and told them she had said they were looking for more rec-assistants.
If they do not get back to you in a week or so, I would just call or go back in to see how your application is getting through. Being an attendant at the gym is a really great opportunity for undergrads because your shifts are only around 3 hours and there's a big enough staff that you can always find a sub.
You are only required to work 2 shifts a week which is AWESOME and its a pretty simple job: swiping cards, cleaning the machines, and chatting it up with the IM bball players (my favorite part!).
If you are interested in working at the AFC either walk in or talk to Arianna or Michelle Carroll, they're treadmill-cleaning-pros already!

Summer Camp counselor opportunity - in Charlottesville!
Interested in staying in Cville this summer?
Love kids?
Love the outdoors??
I am a big fan of the website idealist.org to find jobs, and I came across this opportunity!
Camp Holiday Trails, Charlottesville, VA is a caring community dedicated to empowering, encouraging, and educating children with special medical needs and chronic illnesses through Camp programs aimed at personal growth. We are currently looking for committed and enthusiastic individuals for paid counselor positions for our summer residential camp sessions that run from mid-June through late July or early August (end of Summer dates flexible). The experience of working at CHT provides counselors with a challenging, enlightening, and, most of all, FUN introduction to working with children with special medical needs in a supportive and caring work environment. There is no more unique and memorable summer experience than what you'll find at camp, and for students interested in the health professions, there is no greater learning opportunity than what one can gain from caring for our amazing Campers. Join them if you're ready to make a difference in the lives of some incredible kids! For more information and to apply, please visitwww.campholidaytrails.org.

Cavs in the Classroom - do some good!
Our VP PD Christine Coffield is a rockstar over at Madison House and is a program director for Cavs in the Classroom. Help her out and either be a volunteer or driver!
"So I'm a PD for Cavs in the Classroom, a one hour a week in-class tutoring program at Agnor Hurt Elementary. We received plenty of volunteers however are lacking additional volunteers who can also drive. So if you are interested in participating and are willing to drive, let me know! (You can always borrow my car for your shift!) It's a super easy way to get involved and the kids are awesome!
Here are some strategic times that need drivers
Tuesday 1:00-2:00
Wednesday 9:30-10:30
Thursday 9:00-10:00
Let me know! Also, I'd be your PD so you get to hang with me all the time :)"
You can email Christine for more info @ cpc8pj@virginia.edu
